North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) Secures New Highways Contract
North Somerset Environment Company has signed a new £2.3m annual contract and is now responsible for reactive maintenance, including gullies, potholes, winter maintenance, drainage, signage, road markings, and out-of-hours emergencies across North Somerset highways.
Stuart Jellings, Executive Director at NSEC, emphasised the company's commitment to excellence. “We are thrilled to take on the responsibility for reactive maintenance in North Somerset. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality service and ensuring our roadways are safe and well-maintained. This contract allows us to demonstrate our expertise and commitment to the community,” Jellings remarked.
This new contract is part of North Somerset Council's strategic review of road maintenance. The previous comprehensive highway maintenance contract has been divided into specialised segments, enabling companies to tender for specific areas of expertise, and NSEC was awarded the reactive maintenance contract on this basis.
Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways, highlighted the comprehensive efforts to optimise highway services. "A huge amount of work has been done this year to review the way that the Council contracts highway services to ensure our road network is maintained in the most efficient and cost-effective way," said Cllr Young.
“The new partnerships aim to deliver enhanced social value, support carbon reduction, and protect the environment while leveraging local skills and talent.” Cllr Young added
