    An exciting opportunity has arisen at North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) to lead our Highways team, based at Sandford, near Weston-super-Mare.

    Working as a member of the senior leadership team, you will have full accountability for the safe, efficient, and effective management of our Highways Cyclical and Reactive Maintenance Contract with North Somerset Council which commenced in April 2024. You’ll deliver on the annual Winter Maintenance Plan, cyclical services e.g. gully cleansing, and reactive maintenance such as pothole repairs and patching.  

    In the last 12 months, NSEC have proven to provide these services at best value and to an exceptional quality standard. We’re now searching for a candidate who can sustain and enhance those standards but also develop the business area and its capacity for concentric diversification and commercialisation.

    We’d be interested to hear from candidates who have proven experience in managing highway maintenance or similar operations, especially with a service delivery management background.

    Requirements:

    • Proven experience of managing highway maintenance operations

    • Qualified operator/technician with excellent working knowledge of Highways regulations

    • Motivated to deliver a strong zero-harm safety culture

    • Proven record of delivering lean, continuous improvement within a service environment

    • Excellent IT, analytical and financial skills backed with good presentational skills

    • Ability to negotiate, influence, and create strong client relationships

    • Knowledge of Kaarbontech software or similar gully cleansing software.

    • Ability to follow health and safety procedures and safe systems of work for highway working.

    We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Commercial Vehicle Technician to be part of its commercial maintenance team, responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of our high profile, front-line fleet. The role is based at our Weston super Mare workshop facility.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Apprenticeship trained inclusive of City & Guilds HGV parts 1,2,3 qualification or equivalent.

    • An LGV Class C / HGV Class 2 licence is desirable, but not essential.

    • Ability to work independently both safely and competently in a physically demanding role.

    • Proven experience of maintaining commercial vehicles to a high standard inclusive of servicing, repair and fault diagnosis.

    • Excellent understanding of vehicle and body electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, particularly in the waste management sector.

    We are currently seeking a Quality Manager working as part of our SHEQ team, responsible for the effective delivery and maintenance of its quality management system and business performance data.  We’re keen to hear from experienced and/or qualified candidates with a keen eye for detail and understanding of ISO standards.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team develop, establish, and maintain a QMS/IMS, compliant with the ISO 9001 Standard.

    • Lead and support the maintenance of the business processes, quality improvements and the related document control.

    • Provide KPI and other reports across the business, both regularly and for ad hoc requests, which inform the NSEC Senior Leadership Team on the status of business performance and the compliance with the Clients’ expectations, the operational permits condition and the ISO requirements.

    • Recognise and respond to trends, variances, and fluctuations in reported data to help identify issues and challenges and to make sure the appropriate operational action is taken.

    • Record and control actions from internal and external audits to ensure any non-conformities are corrected and to promote continuous improvement.

    • Promote and develop a culture of lean and continuous performance improvement through the collaboration with and the support of the key operational functions.

    • Collate, submit, and audit returns to regulators e.g. Environment Agency

    The ideal candidate will have:  

    • Qualifications associated with quality standards and auditing e.g. ISO.

    • Experience setting up, delivering, and maintaining Quality and Integrated Management Systems inc. ISO14001 and ISO45001.

    • Understanding of Environmental Permitting and Environment Agency returns.

    • Experience operating in a lean or continuous improvement environment.

    • IT literate including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

    • Ability to build excellent business relationships with teams and key stakeholders.

    We are currently seeking motivated, professional site operative for our HWRC site in Backwell. You will be part of a small, dedicated team that is responsible for the smooth operation of the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Meet and greeting of member of the public as they arrive on site.

    • Taking payments for DIY waste and vehicle permits.

    • Monitoring and direction of members of the public to correct recycling points.

    • Monitoring and direction of traffic on site.

    • General housekeeping at site.

    • To ensure mobile and static plant are always operated in a safe manner.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Full, clean driving licence.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Coordinating with the Workshop Supervisor/Manager.

    • Scheduling inspections and MOTs for both internal and external customers.

    • Ordering parts from multiple suppliers.

    • Raising and managing purchase orders.

    • Stock management.

    • Raising workshop jobs.

    • Collaborating closely with the Fleet Department to ensure KPI targets are met.

    The ideal candidate will have:

North Somerset Environment Company is committed to training and development across all areas of our business. At present we have a couple of Apprentice Technicians learning their trade and gaining qualifications through our in house Workshop, providing them vital on the job training and experience alongside experienced technicians.

Furthermore, we are committed to supporting our workforce in their career aspirations with several of our Supervisors and Managers having worked through our ranks from our collections workforce, gaining valuable industry specific knowledge and experience on their journey.
