North Somerset Celebrates Triple Shortlisting at LGC Awards 2026

North Somerset Environment Company (NSEC) is proud to be represented at the LGC Awards 2026 by Managing Director, Stuart Jellings and Contract Manager, Kerry Ellis, who are attending alongside colleagues from North Somerset Council.

The LGC Awards are among the most prestigious events in local government, celebrating innovation, service delivery, and impact across the UK. This year, North Somerset has been shortlisted in three highly competitive categories, reflecting the strength of its commitment to delivering high-quality services for residents.

In the Environmental Services category, North Somerset has been recognised for becoming the first local authority in England to introduce a district-wide kerbside collection of soft plastics. This pioneering initiative represents a major step forward in tackling hard-to-recycle materials and improving recycling rates across the district. It also highlights the strength of NSEC’s “Working Together” ethos with the Council, which sits at the heart of its Local Authority Trading Company (LATCo) model.

North Somerset has also been shortlisted in the Digital Impact category for its innovative use of artificial intelligence in Children’s Services. The project supports the completion of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) forms and has achieved an impressive 90% success rate. By reducing administrative pressures, this approach allows professionals to focus more time on delivering meaningful support and outcomes for children and families.

A third nomination has been awarded in the Housing category, recognising the Elm Grove development. This project demonstrates excellence in delivering high-quality, sustainable, and affordable housing through a commercial delivery partnership, further underlining the Council’s forward-thinking approach.

Being shortlisted across three categories highlights the depth of knowledge, innovation, and ambition within North Somerset Council. It also reflects the strength of the collaborative relationship between the Council and NSEC, particularly across environmental and highways services, where both organisations continue to develop practical, effective solutions for the communities they serve.

NSEC congratulates everyone involved in these outstanding projects, as well as all finalists recognised at this year’s LGC Awards.
